Ten found guilty of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced charges of circulating fabrications regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to publishing malicious remarks about the couple's significant age difference.
The court issued conditional custodial sentences of as much as eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has still to be made public.
A circulating unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has spread widely since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France coincides with the Macrons pursuing a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted comparable unfounded claims about the French president's wife's identity.
Their complaint contends that Owens ignored substantial counter-evidence disproving her claim opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these claims on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her insistence that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her current spouse when she taught at his high school.
The couple married in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
