Yet nothing as characteristic. No previous president would have dared – really, no former commander would have conceived – independently wrecking significant portions of the presidential residence to construct a royal-themed celebration hall, with the active collaboration of some of the nation's most affluent, almost all of whom have business with the government.

As bewildering as it is to witness the leader try to upend the established notion about democracy and substitute it with its complete opposite, there is one large group within America who should not find it completely novel.
